The Metal Element Meridian Stretch and Exercises
The Lung Meridian
The Large Intestine Meridian
The Metal Element
The role of the lung is in controlling respiration and distributing it throughout the body. The role of the large intestine is in charge of elimination.
The function of the lung is dispersing and descending Qi throughout the body.
The metal element is also responsible for dispersing the fluids throughout the body, and the condition of the fluids can often be detected by looking at the condition of the skin - the tissue connected with the metal element)
Emotionally, the metal element is said to be in charge of sadness, grief and control.
On a spiritual level, the metal element is the highest level of our consciousness as well as the lowest.
It is in charge of discernment (see wood relationship with judgement and decisions) boundaries, manifestation, and helps us manage our thoughts by filtering worries, fears, and emotions such as anger
Metal generates Water
Physiology - our nutritive Qi comes from the Lung, and the Large Intestine expels waste. When we are effectively letting in the pure, and releasing the impure, the Kidneys job is easier. The Lung is also responsible for dispersing water throughout the body.
The Kidney is in charge of receiving and dispersing Qi, as well as separating the pure from the impure.
Emotional - when we feel in control, we have less fear
KI 3 is a point on the medial ankle that when acupressure is applied, it can help with deeper breathing. Very effective for asthma patients or those with tightness in the chest.
Metal controls Wood
Physiology - our nutritive Qi comes from the Lung, and the Large Intestine expels waste. The Lung Controls the Wood or Liver element from becoming Exsessive and the Wood element is the most physical of the five elements. Inspiration helps to prevent stagnation of energy and provides structure.
Emotional - when our emotions are balanced and in control, there is less excess (anger/frustration)
LI 4 and LV3 is called the 4 Gates in Acupuncture. It is a powerful point combination to balance the energy in the entire body, and relieve channel chaos.
Rebellious Lung Qi - Reverse Flow
Manifests as coughing, wheezing and vomiting
The fluids
In this case, instead of dispersing fluids, the weak Lung Qi is unable to do its job, and the fluids return to the lung causing phlegm and congestion.
