Self Cultivation - Meridian Stretches and Assessment
Meridian Stretches
What do we use Meridian Stretches for?
- To open up the flow of Qi in the channels
- To start to develop more refined skills in detecting our own Qi flow and blockages, and to work on that in for our own self care and also to able to work more effectively on our clients
- To have another tool for our self-cultivation and client care
- To work on one specific channel to help a particular problem or to improve the flow in that channel
- Practicing the entire Meridian stretch sequence helps to keep the Qi flowing through the channels in the right direction, as they are done in the correct sequence
The stretch must be comfortable, and the goal is to focus on the channel, its direction of flow, and any areas where the Qi may be congested
If you feel pain, or that you are holding tension anywhere, ease off of the stretch. If you are resisting, you are blocking Qi flow
Meridian Palpation
It is said that most disease starts on the channel level, and progresses to the organ level.
So, if we develop the sensitivity to be able to palpate the meridians and feel where there is congestion and/or weakness then we can help to balance the systems before to goes deeper into the body.
Stretching, wiping, tapping meridians as well as acupoint therapy (acupuncture) can help regulate the flow of Qi in the channels. Acupuncture is the strongest approach, but if the meridian is congested, results can be limited when treating singular points on a channel.
Qi pools in acupoints because there are spaces there, and Qi naturally flows in to spaces.
Having good palpation skills can help you find those areas where the Qi is not flowing well or where it is insufficient.
